Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Financial Analyst-Financial Reporting.

In this role, the successful candidate in this position will be responsible for the accounting and reporting, financial analysis and general ledger functions for NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC). The reporting entities comprising NYULMC include: NYU Hospitals Center, the NYU School of Medicine, CCC550 Insurance, Inc.,The J & M Vilcek Foundation, NYU Imaging, Inc., New York University Medical Center Foundation, Inc. and the 34th Street Cancer Center, Inc. This position will report to the Manager of Financial Reporting

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements, including the preparation of journal entries and account analyses.
  • Ensures accuracy of general ledger, financial statements and ancillary reports.
  • Assists management in the coordination of various financial audits with the external auditors including, but not limited to, the NYULMC August 31st fiscal year-end audit, the NYUHC December 31st calendar year-end audit (supporting NYSDOH cost report requirements), OMB Circular A-133, Defined Benefit Pension and 403(b) Retirement Plan Audits.
  • Prepares account analyses for all balance sheet and P&L accounts.
  • General Responsibilities:Staff.Supports Financial Reporting management and its responsibilities.Reviews and approves work performed by the staff, as requested.Provides input to management regarding staff performance appraisals.
  • Customer Service.Acts as a point of contact with external parties having financial relationships involved with the institution.Identifies and coordinates resources to meet customer needs.Conducts regular visits and communicates with departments to foster partnerships between Finance and operational departments.
  • Professional Development.Participate in both NYULMC and industry sponsored events that promote professional development and career mentoring.Represents Finance department at key meetings (ie. Administrative Leadership Meeting).Identifies areas of improvement for Finance and operational departments.Understands the effects of operational, financial and regulatory changes.Demonstrates initiative to improve services and processes to customers.Demonstrates creative thinking for developing solution.Respects and maintains confidentiality of all financial information within NYULMC.Assures that work is thought out and planned in advance; is able to assess time required for completion of ones work and others.Facilitates a team atmosphere within Finance and respective departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.Experience: A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of accounting experience. Not-for-profit, healthcare or public accounting background preferred.The Staff Accountant must have a sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and a general understanding of the healthcare and higher education industries in order to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position. The individual must have analytical and computer skills to support the General Accounting Department. The Staff Accountant should possess skills to meet and exceed the needs of their customers, including, but not limited to communication, organization, project planning and supervision and strategic thinking that will assist in decision-making processes.
